Biography

Douglas Watt

Douglas Watt was educated at Edinburgh University where he received an MA in Scottish History. He continued his historical studies at Edinburgh and was awarded a PhD with a thesis on Highland chiefs and debt networks in sixteenth and seventeenth century Scotland.

He then worked for nine years as an investment manager specialising in Far East stock markets and travelling extensively throughout the region. From 2003 to 2006 he was a post-doctoral research fellow in the Scottish History department of Edinburgh University, funded by the Stewart Ivory Foundation to research the financial aspects of the history of the Company of Scotland trading to Africa and the Indies (Darien Company). The results of his research have appeared in a number of academic journals. He now works for First State Investments in Edinburgh. He is married with three children and lives in Linlithgow.
